Shels boss Ian Morris has said this Saturday’s home game against Limerick FC will be a “day to remember” but maintains he wants to sign off in style with a win.

Shels will lift the SSE Airtricity League First Division trophy on Saturday night having won the title in Drogheda last Friday with a famous 3-1 win.

Morris was full of praise for Limerick manager Tommy Barrett, who he said has “done an unbelievable job” given some off-field issues around the club.

“He deserves as much credit as he can get. They’ll be a difficult team to play against and are hard to predict with players who can hurt you,” he said.

“We want to win the game, and then leave the celebrations until after the final whistle. We want to have as high a final points tally as possible,” Morris told shels.remo.ie.

However, Morris said he wants the “atmosphere to be electric” as he is still feeling the excitement from last Friday night.

“The genuine thank yous you get and the tears along with the raw emotion showed what everyone felt and what this club means to people,” he said.

“It’s all about the connection with the fans and players with everyone pulling in the same direction. It’s been a fantastic season,” he said.

Saturday’s game with Limerick sees the last of Dean Delany, who has the fourth-highest number of appearances for Shels, in a red shirt after 11 years total service with the club.

Morris describes Delany as a “legend” who he “can’t speak highly enough of” after bringing his unbelievable experience and talent to the promotion winning season.

“He was the last person off the training pitch everyday and his condition was unbelievable for a player of 39 years.

“His professionalism and the way he manages the changing room is incredible and I can not speak highly enough of him.

“With his family and kids he can celebrate his achievements on Saturday after an amazing 23 year career,” he said.

Shels have no suspensions or injuries other than long-term absentees Dan Byrne and JR Wilson to note ahead of tomorrow’s game.
